Cultural Compilations is an independent blog with a mission to highlight new research in culture, society, and the human experience. How do people make sense of the world around them? How do they organize their communities? Or honor their histories? These are some of the social science research topics Cultural Compilations features. The stories and insights shared here are people-centered, social justice-focused, and grounded in scientific findings.

Cultural Compilations was founded in 2021 by writer and content creator Gabriela Lingren (née Galeano). Gabriela earned a B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology from George Mason University. Her undergraduate and graduate research focused on tourism development, land dispossession, community participation, and national narratives among the Garifuna communities of northern Honduras, her native country.

Gabriela manages research grants and projects as an Associate Program Officer in the Gulf Research Program (GRP) at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Before joining the GRP in 2022, Gabriela was the Senior Science Associate at the Society for Research Development where she managed awards, grants, and fellowships and helped implement the organization’s science initiatives and programs. Her interest and experience in the social and behavioral sciences have taken her to the National Science Foundation where she helped coordinate peer review panels and evaluations, and the Association for Psychological Science where she supported science policy programs and events.

When not writing, Gabriela enjoys knitting, watching wrestling, listening to heavy metal, and spending time with her husband and their 7-year-old cat.
